#1 Off-Topic Chat » Advice Needed for Pool Remodel – Where to Start? » May 03 8:50 AM

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to remodel my aging backyard pool and could really use some guidance. The pool is around 20 years old, and while the structure is sound, the surface is worn and the surrounding deck is outdated. I’m considering resurfacing, new tile, updated lighting, and possibly adding a spa.
I’m not sure whether to hire a designer or go straight to a contractor. Has anyone recently done a pool remodel? What steps did you take first, and what would you do differently? Any budget tips or ideas to get the most value?
Thanks in advance!
#2 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Recommendations for a Firearm Training Simulator? » May 01 6:03 AM
Hello.
I've used a few firearm training simulators, and they can be a great tool for improving skills like target acquisition, recoil management, and firearm handling. For accurate and practical training, a firearms training simulator like MantisX or LaserAmmo provides solid feedback on shooting mechanics, while VirTra and iTarget Pro offer more immersive experiences.
iTarget is an affordable option that works with your actual firearm using a laser insert for home practice. For a more advanced setup, TrueFire is great but pricier. Affordable options like iTarget are ideal for getting started with realistic, budget-friendly training at home.
#3 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Recommendations for Reliable Hardscape Contractor in Seattle? » Apr 30 8:06 PM
I recently hired Terrain Outdoor Living for a similar project in Seattle, and I highly recommend them. They built a flagstone patio, a tiered retaining wall, and handled some tricky drainage issues due to our sloped yard. Their crew was professional, punctual, and communicative throughout the process. Pricing was transparent—no surprise charges. They also took the time to explain options that worked best for our soil and rainfall patterns here.
One tip: avoid contractors who gloss over drainage or don't pull permits when needed. That can lead to major issues down the line. I can share photos if you're interested!
#4 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Qatar ID Renewal Fees - What Are the Latest Costs? » Apr 30 6:07 AM
The fee for renewing a Qatar ID depends on the sponsorship type. For individuals, the fee is QAR 300 per year. If you're under family sponsorship, it's QAR 500 per year, and for company sponsorship, it costs QAR 1,000 per year. In case of late renewal, a QAR 10 daily penalty applies. If you choose Qatar Post for delivery, an additional QAR 20 fee is charged. The renewal process can be completed instantly online, and if you opt for delivery, it takes 3-5 working days to receive the new ID. You can also collect it in person at any MOI service center.
#5 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Looking for the Best Notes App for Organizing Ideas » Apr 28 9:04 AM
Hey! I’ve tried a few different notes apps that could work well for what you're looking for. Notion is a favorite of mine because it's super customizable. You can organize notes however you like, and it has great categorization and tagging features. It syncs across devices seamlessly, so you can access everything from your phone, tablet, or computer. It’s also really useful for both quick notes and more detailed journal entries or creative writing.
Evernote is another solid option that I’ve used for years. It’s reliable for syncing notes across devices and offers a clean interface for keeping things organized. It’s especially good if you want to separate things into notebooks, and the tagging feature works well for grouping related ideas.
Finally, if you're into brainstorming and connecting ideas in a more visual way, Obsidian might be worth checking out. It’s fantastic for creative writing since you can link your ideas together in a more dynamic way, almost like building your own personal knowledge base.
All three have easy-to-use interfaces and should help keep everything organized while offering flexibility for different types of notes!
#6 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Need Advice on Filing a Work Accident Claim » Apr 26 12:34 AM
Hi there,
Sorry to hear about your accident — I hope you're starting to feel a bit better. It sounds like you've already taken an important first step by reporting it and completing an incident report. Right now, it’s important to make sure you get proper medical treatment and keep detailed records of everything, including doctor visits and expenses. As for contacting a lawyer, you don’t have to rush into anything, but speaking with a workers’ comp lawyer for a free consultation is a smart move. It doesn’t mean you’re filing a lawsuit; it just helps you understand your rights early. One mistake people often make is trusting that everything will be handled fairly without double-checking the process. It’s better to stay careful and informed from the start. Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery.
#7 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Considering a Hair Transplant - What Should I Know? » Apr 17 5:27 AM
Hi there!
I’ve had a hair transplant a few years ago, so I can share some insights. First, it’s crucial to do your research on the clinic and surgeon. Look for board-certified professionals with good reviews and before-and-after photos. I went with an FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method, which is less invasive and leaves minimal scarring.
The recovery time varies but generally takes about 7-10 days for the initial healing, though it can take up to a year to see the full results. You’ll experience shedding in the first few weeks, but that’s normal, as the new hair follicles settle in.
Costs can range from $3,000 to $15,000, depending on the clinic, procedure type, and the number of grafts needed.
Aftercare is important! I followed my surgeon's advice on avoiding sun exposure and not touching the transplanted area too much. I’d also suggest avoiding alcohol and smoking as they can slow the healing process.
I recommend looking into clinics with a solid reputation, like those in Turkey or high-quality providers in the US and UK, but definitely consult with a few to get a feel for your options!
#8 Re: Off-Topic Chat » What's Your Opinion on Designer Bags? Are They Worth the Investment? » Apr 14 1:30 PM
Hey! I think it really depends on what you're looking for in a bag. Designer bags often offer superior craftsmanship, materials, and attention to detail, which can make them more durable and stylish in the long run. If you’re someone who likes high-quality products that last and holds value over time, they can definitely be worth it. Some designer bags also retain or even increase in value, especially limited editions or iconic pieces.
That said, non-designer bags can still offer great style and functionality for a fraction of the price. If you're more budget-conscious or prefer variety in your collection, you might not miss the designer aspect. Ultimately, it’s about how much value you place on the brand, design, and craftsmanship versus the cost. If you're investing in something you’ll truly love and use often, it could be worth it.
#9 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Concerns About Username Generators: Are They Safe? » Apr 09 10:35 AM
I’ve used a few online username generators, and while they can help come up with creative and unique options, there are some things to keep in mind. Many generators aim to create random usernames, but depending on the algorithm, some may still end up using patterns that are relatively easy to guess or too similar to existing usernames on popular platforms. This could pose a risk if you're aiming for maximum privacy or security.
As for data collection, most reputable generators don’t store personal data, but it’s important to review their privacy policy before using them. Additionally, some generators allow you to check if a name is available across various platforms, which can help you avoid picking a name that’s already in use. However, if you’re highly concerned about privacy, it’s better to use a service that explicitly states they don’t collect personal info. Ultimately, I’d recommend cross-checking any name you generate on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook to ensure it’s not already taken.
#10 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Best Way to Convert VHS Tapes to Digital Without Losing Quality? » Apr 08 11:54 PM
Hey!
If you're looking to digitize your VHS tapes with the best quality possible, a DIY approach can give you a lot of control over the final result. Skip the low-end USB capture devices, as they often don’t produce great results. Instead, I recommend using a high-quality capture card, like the Elgato Video Capture or Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle, paired with a well-maintained VHS player. Some VHS players have built-in Time Base Correctors (TBC), which can help with signal issues, resulting in cleaner footage.
For editing and cleaning up the video afterward, software like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve can do wonders, allowing you to adjust things like contrast, brightness, and even reduce digital noise. If you're not comfortable with editing, you could consider professional services, but they tend to be pricey.
Ultimately, if you’re willing to put in the time, DIY can yield fantastic results and save you money.
#11 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Beste Orthopädische Schuhe für Damen? » Apr 07 4:47 PM

For a high-quality domino set, consider the following:
Material: Wood and resin sets offer durability and a premium feel. Plastic sets are lightweight, easy to maintain, and durable.
Size: A standard double-six set is sufficient for casual play. If you prefer longer games or more players, consider a double-nine or double-twelve.
Weight: Medium weight provides a good balance, making the pieces easy to handle.
Recommended brands: Mexican Train Dominoes and Prestige Domino Sets are known for smooth gameplay and durability. Look for a set with a storage box for convenience.
These features will ensure long-lasting enjoyment and quality gameplay.
#13 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Best Comic Book Recommendations for Beginners? » Apr 05 12:34 AM
For strong character development and unique artwork, I’d recommend starting with Saga by Brian K. Vaughan, which mixes sci-fi and fantasy with deep characters. Sandman by Neil Gaiman is another great choice, blending mythology and horror. If you're into superheroes, Ms. Marvel (2014) by G. Willow Wilson offers a fresh perspective, while Maus by Art Spiegelman is a powerful graphic novel on the Holocaust. Finally, Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan is an excellent post-apocalyptic story with well-developed characters.
#14 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Clarification on Building Permit Drawings Requirements » Apr 03 12:53 PM
Hi!
The requirements for building permit drawings can vary depending on your location, but generally, they need to include a site plan that shows property boundaries, existing structures, and the new construction, along with setbacks and easements. You’ll also need detailed floor plans showing room layouts, dimensions, and structural elements. Elevations are required to show the building’s exterior from all sides, and you must include structural details such as foundation and framing. As for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC plans, they may need to be submitted separately, though some areas might require them to be included in the permit package. Be sure to use the correct scale, often 1:100 or 1:50 for residential projects, and include a title block with the project name, location, date, and scale. Always check local regulations for specific format requirements, and ensure the drawings are complete, legible, and comply with building codes to avoid delays.
#15 Re: Off-Topic Chat » Choosing the Right Advertising Production Company – What Should I Look » Mar 30 4:36 AM
When selecting an advertising production company, it’s essential to balance experience, creative style, and budget. A strong portfolio that aligns with your vision is often more important than years in the industry, though familiarity with your field can be a big advantage. Clear communication, transparency in pricing, and a solid track record of meeting deadlines are key indicators of reliability. Reviews and testimonials can give insight into past client experiences. Be cautious of companies that are vague about costs or timelines, as this can lead to unexpected delays and budget overruns. What kind of project are you planning?
